2 Timothy 2:7 says,
“Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.”
“Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.”
This is one of those little verses
that I have always overlooked. Just kind of read right past it. But this is a
little verse that packs a powerful truth. Paul is saying to Timothy that he may
not understand the last four sentences Paul had just written (verses 3-6) straight
off, but to think over what he has said, that is consider it, pray over it,
wait on the Lord about it, and “the Lord will give you understanding in
everything.”
In Luke 24:45, it says about Jesus speaking to two of His disciples, “And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.”
In partnership with our prayer, study, fellowship and gaining experience in our walk with the Lord over time, the Holy Spirit Himself helps us understand God’s Word. If we will give the Lord the time, and consider and pray over what His Word says, the Lord Himself will help us understand what the Scripture means and apply it to our lives. What an amazing promise and privilege!
